Consider the difficulties in engaging students who have not attended school, often for a year or more. Consider the difficulty in teaching when students leave a class each week and new students are added, and when many do not stay for a full academic year. Consider the difficulty of planni <a href={url}>{keyword}</a> ng and teaching when some students will be absent from class to get haircuts, talk with social workers or other officers or spend time in lock-up. Some students are hostile toward any effort at instruction. My experience as a teacher of delinquent boys for 25 years, which ended 21 years ago, suggests that the investiga <a href={url}>{keyword}</a> tive reporters often fail to understand the limitations that teachers and other staff members face. Juvenile-prison teachers want to work in circumstances where accountability <a href={url}>{keyword}</a> is possible, but the ever-shifting efforts of the system have ways of destroying the best plans that teachers make. I know from experience that it takes time to find productive ways of teaching. The Dispatch article served to demoralize institution teachers trying to cope with the system and engage students. Did the Mayan Apocalypse happen after all? With fame-wannabes and Spencer Pratt making headlines again, it certa inly seems like doomsday is upon us. The couple, known as Speidi by their un-adoring public, have just been announced as contestants on the 11th season of Britain's "Celebrity Big Brother." Like their moniker and publicity-seeking relationship, Speidi will be competing as a "single entity" against the 10 other housemates. Hopefully the house can accommodate Heidi's two other guests: her DDD breast implants, acquired when she famously went under the knife for 10 plastic surgeries in a single day. As the former "Hills" stars joined host Brian Dowling -- who actually referred to them as "reality TV royalty" -- they were roundly booed by the live audience, who continued to voice their displeasure throughout their introductions. It's hard to imagine why, considering their charming video package. "I love myself -- very much so," noted Spencer, proving that although his star may have fallen, his ego is still as inflated as ever. "It's going to b <a href={url}>{keyword}</a>e horrifying," h <a href={url}>{keyword}</a> e admitted about the prospect of being confined to a "house" with strangers. The weather stymied further attempts to reestablish a tow.Conservation groups said the incident raised questions about how well Shell Alaska could have responded if the incident had happened not near Kodiak, where the Coast Guard operates a major base, but 1,000 miles north where drilling operations were underway in the Arctic. We are learning, again and again, that Alaska s seas are unforgiving. More careful preparation and planning clearly are needed before decisions are made to allow offshore oil and gas activities in the Arctic Ocean, the conservation group Oceana, which has opposed offshore drilling in Alaska, said in a statement. Substantial public resources have been and will be expended as a result of Shell s choices.
